Today Jesse’s son David is called from his flock to serve the Lord and shepherd his people.
Today Jesus opens the eyes of a man to the wonders of belief in God’s son. God also calls us from our ordinary work and opens our eyes through baptism to insight into his mighty works. He calls on us to believe, to worship and then to follow the Lord Jesus, his son.
We are made new, enlightened children of the light of God. We must discover what the Lord wants of us. Do we dare follow where Jesus leads us? Do you?

This day Jesus weeps for his dead friend Lazarus. He asks Martha, “If anyone believes in me, even though he dies he will live. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” After Martha’s yes, Jesus raised Lazarus, and we are witnesses.
Paul adds: “If the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, then he who raised Jesus from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies.” Resurrection is the key to our witness and our faith in Jesus.

“Why are you doing this?” “The Master needs it!” All of Jesus’emptying out enabled him to become a human being so that human beings might become like God.
Tested in the garden of Gethsemane and on the cross, Jesus lives the truth with God-filled determination—he set his face like flint. Do we act with conviction, too?
